By TRAIN:
There are two train stations in Montecatini Terme: Montecatini Terme-Monsummano, which is the main station, and Montecatini Centro.
Both stations are located on the  Firenze-Viareggio line and are served by regional trains. The journey between the terminal station Firenze Santa Maria Novella (SMN) and Montecatini is between 45 mins (to Montecatini Terme) and 50 mins (to Montecatini Centro).

  • The best way to navigate the train system is to book online.
  • For regional, national, and high-speed train, visit the Trenitalia’s website: https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html.
  • High-speed trains to Firenze SMN (and sometimes cheaper than Trenitalia’s) are also available from Italotreno: https://www.italotreno.it/en.
  • Both Trenitalia and Italotreno have special/cheaper offers on high-speed trains if you buy your ticket well in advance (at least 4 weeks).
  • IMPORTANT – If you buy a “paper” ticket (e.g., at the station’s ticket office or an approved seller), you must validate it at one of the station’s machines before boarding the train.

By AIR:
The nearest airports are Pisa (Pisa-Galileo Galilei) and Florence (Firenze-Peretola; sometimes it is indicated as Florence Amerigo Vespucci).

From Pisa airport: Pisa Aeroporto is connected to Pisa Centrale train station by the PisaMover, which runs every day from 6 a.m. to midnight, every 5/8 minutes (average journey time 5 mins). From Pisa Centrale, regional trains leave hourly: about 27 mins to Lucca train station; then, about 30 mins to Montecatini Terme-Monsummano (or Montecatini Centro) train station. Direct trains are also available from Pisa Centrale to Montecatini but are less frequent.

From Florence airport, take either the bus or the tramway to Firenze Santa Maria Novella (SMN) train station (approx. 20 mins journey, the tramway stop is Alamanni-Stazione SMN); then, the regional train to Montecatini Terme-Monsummano (or Montecatini Centro) train station (journey usually takes 45 mins). Alternative Airports:

  • Bologna airport. From the airport take the monorail train to Bologna Centrale train station (about 7 mins journey). From there, take the high-speed train to Firenze Santa Maria Novella (about 40 mins journey). From Firenze SMN, take a regional train to Montecatini Terme (or Montecatini Centro) station.
  • Rome (Fiumicino airport). From the airport, take the train shuttle to Roma Termini train station (about 30 mins journey). From there, take the high-speed train to Florence Santa Maria Novella train station (about 1.5 hr journey). From Firenze SMN, take a regional train to Montecatini Terme (or Montecatini Centro) station.

By CAR:
Montecatini Terme is served by the A11 Motorway  (Autostrada A11), also known as Firenze-Mare. On the “international E-road network”, it is numbered as E76.
The Autostrada A11 runs in a West-East direction from Florence to Pisa, and to the coast. The Montecatini Terme exit is approximately 39km from Florence and 42km from Pisa.
